A state without broad wage income tax can still have other taxes. Local withholding, sales and property rules also require jurisdiction-specific sources.
Important U.S. tax distinctions
Filing status and deductions affect a federal return. A paycheck uses W-4 withholding rules, which can differ from final annual liability. Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes are separate from federal income tax. State and local taxes depend on where you live and work.
Credits, capital-gain treatment, self-employment and retirement rules require eligibility facts. Taxliva will not publish a numerical result for a topic until its 2026 rules, boundary tests and worked examples have been checked against official sources.
